What is Beingness? Full Non-Duality Satsang

Direct Realization isn't an achievement; it's a 'dropping in.' This satsang deconstructs the mind's addiction to noise—the desperate, 'bad TV channel'—and reveals the silence that ends the compulsive chase for rewards. Stop seeking. Start Seeing.

What is Beingness? Full Non-Duality Satsang

In This Video:

This satsang provides a technical deconstruction of reality, exposing the illusion of a separate self and world. Rohan uses engineering metaphors—the mind as a 'bad TV channel' addicted to noise, reality rendering like a first-person shooter—to dismantle the 'apparition of two.' The teaching pivots from cosmic observation (the stars are you) to the direct, felt experience of 'dropping in' to Beingness. This is not a philosophical talk; it is a set of skillful means for interrupting the ego-structure's addiction to seeking and suffering, revealing the ever-present background that remains when all states (waking, dreaming, deep sleep) disappear.

  • In what ways do you use 'busyness' as a shield to avoid the discomfort of silence?
  • Rohan compares the untrained mind to a 'bad TV channel desperate for content.' What 'junk content' does your Committee repeat?
  • Where are you chasing a 'donkey and cart' reward, believing it's a kingdom, only to find it perpetuates suffering?
  • If you were to stop 'leaning forward into the future,' what space would open up, and what is the fear associated with that space?
  • The 'self' is described as flickering faster than a TV screen, with each moment new. What agreements hold the illusion of a continuous, solid 'you' in place?

TRANSCRIPT

[00:23:44] I'm just outside and the stars are really bright tonight, checking the fire we had to make sure it's okay. [00:30:84] You look up and see these stars light years away. [00:37:06] Apparently. [00:40:48] And it can be really easy to not realize that's you. [00:44:03] It's really easy. It's so immense. It seems so vast. [00:51:76] So beyond grasp. [00:57:48] We're that too. [01:01:29] And that there's not two. [01:04:36] There's the appearance of two. [01:06:55] The apparition of two. [01:14:86] But it's all the one thing. [01:20:00] Space between the stars and the viewer. [01:26:06] The star itself are all the same substance. [01:34:64] And if the viewer wasn't there, your perception here looking at it, it disappears. [01:42:30] It's all reliant on you. There's no independent object to you. There's no separate object to you. None. [01:50:54] No perceiver. [01:53:77] Nothing. Like in deep sleep at night, where does the universe go? [02:01:27] Disappears, doesn't it? [02:04:15] In deep sleep, everything's gone. [02:09:82] You wouldn't even know if you didn't wake up again. [02:17:15] It's over. It's finished. It's like a death. [02:23:18] You close your eyes and you go into a deep sleep and you're not in a dream state, you're not in the waking dream, which is a waking dream, and you have a sleeping dream. [02:32:00] And you have the deep sleep state. All states, they all come and go, therefore, none of them are actually real. They all come and go. If it's real, it doesn't leave. [02:43:24] And the background is what never leaves. [02:49:85] Of that. All three states. [02:51:17] So when you're looking out here, all this comes and goes. Those stars come and go. You come and go. [02:58:34] It's all transient. It's all flux. [03:02:41] We were watching the fire earlier, the way it was burning and swirling and the flames were coming and going so rapidly. [03:09:12] There's no different. [03:12:00] Just apparitions against a backdrop. [03:21:65] It just appears more solid. And even if it is more solid, so what? [03:26:73] Doesn't change anything. [03:32:13] The volume of a song doesn't change the song. [03:52:05] It's all one thing. [04:00:66] Don't get caught up in the vastness and the smallness. The small grinding in a little mind that thinks it knows things. [04:10:04] Pontificates its wisdoms and its understandings that it got from elsewhere and different readings and hearings and thinkings. All rooted in past. [04:20:41] Then propagates it out into the public. [04:24:62] As if it's special in some way. [04:27:14] Forget all that. [04:40:24] The vastness and the smallness are all the one thing. [04:51:30] You've never been outside of it, ever, for a nanosecond. [04:56:56] It's just whether you've remembered it or not, that's all. [05:03:77] The only reason I use the word remember is because we've forgotten. [05:09:90] Neither of these are required. [05:12:12] It's just now is and it will be revealed. In time, stay in the heart and it will be revealed. [05:19:35] It won't be my words. It'll be your seeing. [05:29:43] And when it's your seeing, then you remember the seeing whenever you forget. Keep coming back to it. [05:37:41] Dropping, dropping, surrendering, surrendering. Keep coming home. It's home. [05:48:86] The meek shall inherit the earth. The inward, the heart centered. The meek, quiet, not out there bombastically in the world, chasing illusions. The inward, the meek, inherit the earth. [06:05:01] They realize they're the earth. Then they realize they're the space and the heavens also, and the stars. [06:16:36] With correct intent, willingness and direction, of course. [06:30:48] So you can rest in that. [06:33:48] You don't have to fight anymore. You don't have to fight the world. You don't have to fight your neighbors, your colleagues. [06:40:99] Your family. Rest, rest, rest. Rest in understanding. [06:49:09] Enjoy. [06:59:08] Outside of imagination, is there anything outside of this room? [07:05:06] Without imagination, is there anything outside of this room right now? Can you be sure? [07:48:07] Can you be sure? Is there anything outside? [07:50:09] I'm not sure. [08:04:11] So gaming, you know, you play a first person shooter game. There's nothing behind you until you turn and look at it. [08:15:07] It takes way too much computation power to create everything at once. So it's only computed where you look. [08:21:95] It comes into reality as you observe. [08:30:84] Do you feel the space behind you right now? [08:37:25] Feel it. [08:50:98] It's magnificent. Nothing to fear. It's so alive. [08:56:06] It's more alive than any human. It's liveness itself. [09:04:00] Some call it God. Some call it Brahma. Some call it Shiva. Whatever you wanna call it. It makes no difference. It's the same thing. It's the one thing. The names are pointless. [09:21:13] You're it too. [09:27:85] You're it. [09:31:07] There's nothing you can do about it. [09:36:99] Even if you wanted to, you can't. All you can do is run, distract yourself, and think, and think, and think, and worry, and worry, and do all these silly things. [09:48:47] That's about as the best you can do to escape it. Get belligerently drunk. Get intoxicated. [09:54:19] That's what most people do. That's why they don't know this. [10:00:99] Run around in the world chasing illusions. [10:03:68] Telling themselves stories. [10:08:06] As if there's two people there. They debate themselves as there's two people there. [10:18:78] In truth is you don't have a choice. You are the one thing. [10:27:54] It's a miracle we all forgot. That's the real miracle. That's the real strange thing. [10:35:10] Billions and billions of beings forgotten what they are. [10:50:47] So it's a homecoming. There's no parade. [10:55:40] It'll happen quietly. You'll probably be alone. Or in a satsang, or in a private, or wherever. [11:03:68] It just gets seen. It just gets revealed. [11:11:42] It's like a dropping. Oh. [11:18:72] Dropping into self. Dropping back. The visual I had was... [11:24:46] When I was coming in and out of satori, in and out of beingness. [11:32:44] Which happens for quite some time, usually. [11:35:46] It was like those air hockey tables and somewhere on that table was a hole exactly the same size as the puck. [11:44:59] And if I just got myself into a completely surrendered, relaxed state, I'd drop in. I'd be like the puck that would drop into the table. [11:57:33] And it was a perfect fit, and it just clicked in. And ah, there it is. [12:03:77] It wasn't a lifting or an elevation. It was a dropping into what I already am. [12:16:99] It wasn't a leaving of the body and all these things. I saw a guy... [12:20:96] who came here a couple of times advertising an Indian Guru's 21 month course on how to leave the body and come back. [12:31:07] 21 month intensive. I'm like, well, why do you want to leave the body in the first place? What's the point? Why would you wanna spend 21 months of your life doing that? What's the point of that? [12:41:48] I'd recommend everybody comes back into their body. [12:46:95] 'Cause everybody's up here in their head, floating around in ideas and thoughts. [12:51:71] Dream states. [13:04:60] If the doorway is the heart and silence, why would you wanna leave your body? [13:21:05] There's so much bullshit out there, it's not funny. [13:27:85] It's right here. You've got no choice. So surrender to that. And just live in bliss and contentment. And share that. [13:41:03] Put down the placards. [13:45:19] The righteous ideas. The Facebook mastery. All these things. [14:01:07] It's just up to you. You're smart enough. You know my words are true here. [14:14:87] You're supposed to. You posted in the group some stuff that was accurate and you need to just go back and reread that and go through the inventory. Work out what you want. Donkey and cart or a Kingdom. [14:34:64] Because your donkey and cart is disguised as a kingdom, you know. [14:40:91] And you suffer because you want that reward. You want that carrot. It's so sweet. [15:17:74] But if she's content. [15:20:53] Sounds like the problem is fine there. [15:23:42] And if she is... [15:27:66] You're carrying a story as an adult that maybe doesn't need to be there anymore. [15:40:53] That's how it feels. [15:43:18] Because she seems okay. [15:45:00] Then she's okay. [15:48:07] Check in with four, five, six, and seven-year-old too. [15:51:24] I'll sort her out too. [15:53:07] You don't sort her out. Just be with her. You know what I mean? [16:00:23] It's not so much something to fix. There's just a healing to happen. Just an allowing to happen. [16:06:56] Allowing the understanding of an older, wiser aspect of self. [16:13:95] Of being here permeate into a younger one that was confused about its responsibilities and the level of them. [16:23:07] Allowing that intelligence or knowledge to seep in to the younger you. [16:29:49] So the younger you can rest. [16:32:51] Okay. [16:32:78] And then it'll work its way back up to now. [17:00:07] What was that, sorry? [17:01:21] Millions of times a second, you're new. [17:04:88] So your TV flickers at 60 beats per second. [17:10:48] 50 or 60, depends where you are. [17:13:38] Hertz, right? [17:16:14] You flicker way faster than that. [17:20:00] So the image is if you slowed it down to 50 frames on your TV, you'd see 50 images. [17:27:68] And each image is separate and individual. And fresh. Very similar to the one before. [17:34:65] But not exactly the same. Same for you. [17:38:70] It's happening so fast that the brain can't see it and therefore it assumes there's a linear lineage going on. [17:53:79] And everybody's acting that way and behaving that way and telling you that way and teaching you that way. [17:59:84] And language has evolved that way and created that way. [18:04:95] And we're not language either. [18:17:84] But we've mutated around language. [18:31:00] And thoughts. Human thoughts is language. [18:45:90] So this free thing gets wrapped up. [18:52:84] And silence gets disrespected, dishonored, for constant noise, and if you've got to have constant noise. [18:55:65] You've watched TV channels and they're trying to fill all the slots. [19:00:36] And just some terrible stuff comes out and a lot of repeats. [19:05:48] And lots of adverts. [19:07:37] This is what the mind if the mind doesn't know silence, this is what it has to do. It has to be like a bad TV channel. Desperate. [19:15:39] Desperate to find content. [19:18:67] So it'll put up with any content. [19:24:26] Just to keep the noise running. [19:26:07] And that content poisons us. [19:35:86] Because we've been taught to be addicted to language and thought. [19:40:53] It's how you succeed. It's how you get to the top of the pyramid. [19:46:17] That's how you win. [19:48:86] It has its place like now. [19:55:67] And various other aspects that come in handy. [20:00:46] But the vast majority of it is completely rubbish and unnecessary. [20:10:04] And when you slow this hyperactive computer down. [20:17:80] And it starts to get some space in its spewing forth of ones and zeros. [20:25:39] You start to see a different aspect of life. [20:32:38] And that this primal mind that we're running that we're so proud of slowly becomes a bit of an annoyance. [20:49:73] And a little bit ridiculous. [20:53:99] Although it will keep functioning. It will keep you getting caught by it, but slowly but surely over time. [20:59:74] The thoughts spread out further and further and the gaps get bigger and bigger. [21:01:21] And then another mind can start to come into play, a much bigger mind. [21:05:44] One's far more interesting, far more fresh, far more alive. Vibrant. It's not noisy. It's quiet. [21:17:80] And understanding is just arise. [21:24:21] Or revealed. [21:32:89] And home is really nice, by the way. It's a palace. [21:38:62] You may be dressed in rags, but you're living in a palace. [21:49:50] And no one can see it. Only you know. [22:04:15] It's quite confronting because... [22:05:95] Of course it is. [22:06:55] I think I've suffocated myself with disturbance. I've kept myself so busy. [22:13:30] On purpose. [22:14:48] Hence the statement, is it done yet? [22:19:15] Next. [22:20:07] Next. [22:20:37] That's okay. It'll take a while to slow it down. [22:28:90] You can still be efficient in the world. This only improves everything, but you'll find out that maybe you're doing things that don't need to be done. You'll start to find lots of things that don't actually need to be done. They're not as important as we thought. [22:56:56] So we find time in this way. [23:04:22] Then we find that we actually although the impulse is very strong to keep stepping forward and leaning forward into the future. [23:12:12] When that starts to back off. [23:15:93] You start to find a lot of space in our life and time in our life. And you can relax and your shoulders can drop. [23:22:19] And start undoing the pains we're carrying that have been driving us forward, and the ignorances that have been driving us forward, the beliefs we've been given, handed down. [23:33:90] Rewarded when we achieve a lot. [23:36:12] Unrewarded when we don't. [23:37:37] We've been programmed to be nothing more than ants. [23:44:89] Sophisticated ants. [23:51:75] So sophisticated we torture ourselves, unlike the ants. [23:58:65] We harm each other for no reason. [24:02:40] Harm nature and animals for no reason. [24:08:58] Other than ignorance and a belief that we're superior to the environment and life. When we are actually life. We harm, we hurt a lot. [24:22:96] We hurt nature and the environment, we hurt ourselves. [24:28:60] You wake up, and you're deep into awakening and it's just natural to help others, because it's you. [24:34:64] A part of you's suffering. [24:37:06] Why not just say something, even if you want to hear it. [25:05:43] I watched a YouTube video about some people in Myanmar that were suffering, their lives were just deeply intense and hard. [25:12:06] And it kind of slapped me in the face because you know... [25:15:37] I'm feeling some discomfort, but I kind of had a sense of patheticness after watching what these people were going through. [25:21:40] They don't have time to even play with any of the stuff you're playing with. It might be in their systems, but life is not even giving them the opportunity to stop long enough to deal with these inner pains and these inner wounds. They're just busy surviving. [25:38:81] You've been given a gift of time. And you've bumped into someone like me, so. [25:46:95] You need to take full advantage of that with the very, very short life you have. It's a flickering of a flame. [25:56:88] Or come back and go through it all again. And again. And again. The wheel of samsara. [26:15:10] If that's not enough to motivate you, I don't know what is. 'Cause life is tough. [26:20:30] It's just hard work too, isn't it? [26:28:90] So there's a carrot dangling. [26:34:10] For success. [26:38:65] And when you don't get a little bite of that carrot, you're not happy. [26:48:42] And you suffer. [26:50:85] 'Cause you want that reward. You want that carrot. It's so sweet. [27:31:07] They don't have time to even play with any of the stuff you're playing with. It might be in their systems, but life is not even giving them the opportunity to stop long enough to deal with these inner pains and these inner wounds. They're just busy surviving. [27:38:64] You've been given a gift of time. And you've bumped into someone like me, so. [27:43:86] You need to take full advantage of that with the very, very short life you have. It's a flickering of a flame. [27:56:87] Or come back and go through it all again. And again. And again. The wheel of samskara. [28:02:97] Samsara. [28:15:06] If that's not enough to motivate you, I don't know what is. Because life is tough. [28:20:30] It's just hard work too, isn't it? [28:27:72] So there's a carrot dangling. [28:33:63] To success. [28:38:43] And when you don't get a little bite of that carrot, you're not happy.

GLOSSARY

  • Direct Seeing
The recognition of reality as it is, without the filter of the 'Committee' (ego-structures). Contrasted with intellectual understanding.
  • The Mitoté (The Fog)
The constant, desperate noise of the mind, which Rohan likens to a 'bad TV channel' filling space with any content to avoid silence.
  • Dropping In
The direct experience of Realization. Not an elevation or escape, but a surrender into what you already are, like a puck falling into a perfectly sized hole.
  • Beingness
The fundamental, unchanging background of awareness upon which all states (waking, dreaming, deep sleep) appear and disappear. The 'I AM.'
  • Agreements
The domesticated beliefs and programs that create the illusion of a separate self and perpetuate suffering, such as the 'donkey and cart' chase for rewards.
  • Deconstruction
The process of Inner Engineering; dismantling the ego-structures and agreements that obscure Direct Seeing.
  • Samsara
The wheel of suffering; the repetitive cycle of chasing illusions and experiencing the resulting pain, driven by the failure to recognize one's true nature.
  • The Committee (Ego-Structures)
The internal monologue that debates itself 'as if there's two people there,' creating stories and perpetuating the illusion of a separate self.
  • The Apparition of Two
The illusion of a separate perceiver and a separate perceived world. In reality, there is only one substance, one Beingness.
  • Skillful Means
The direct, practical 'medicine' offered by a Realized Guide to interrupt a student's patterns, such as the inquiry, 'Without imagination, is there anything outside this room?'

“There’s nothing to add. What you are is prior to beliefs, thoughts and labels.
